Cornwall Town Board met Tuesday

At press time, the Cornwall Town Board was set to hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29 to conduct three pieces of business prior to going into an executive session to interview police chief candidates.

First, the board was expected to introduce a local law and schedule a public hearing on the topic of a police chief residency requirement, as they look to expand potential candidate eligibility. The law would allow the police chief to reside as far away as ten miles from the town. They were looking to schedule the public hearing for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

Second was to award a contract for the improvements to the Ice House, in Riverlight Park. No details on this were available at press time.

Third, was to have the town clerk present the tentative 2027 budget (in paper form) to the board, as they prepare to begin their work on the town’s spending plan. Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 30, the tentative budget was to be made available to the public via the town website, and paper copies will be available for public inspection in the Town Clerk’s office, as required by law.
