James P. Grant, 90, of Fort Montgomery, NY, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

He was the son of Bridget and James Grant. Jim was born on November 5, 1935, in Ireland.

As a young fellow, he came to America on the Queen Mary. When he got off the boat in New York, he heard of the Astor Hotel from the movies. He didn’t know anyone in New York; there was no one there to greet him. He asked where the men’s room was. He saw a man mopping the floors, and he asked him, “Where can I find a job?” The man said, “you can go up to Bear Mountain Inn.” He took a bus there and he said he thought he landed in Heaven. It was so beautiful. He asked if he could talk to the manager, and a man by the name of John Martin came over. Once he knew Jim was from Ireland, he gave him a job with room and board. Jim was so happy, and he worked at the Bear Mountain Inn as a bartender for 57 years. He loved working with people, was fondly referred to as “Mr. Grant”, and he will always be remembered.

In addition to the love of his life, Ann Maset, Jim leaves his granddaughter Caitlin Chapman, and many

nieces and nephews to cherish his memory. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brothers, John Grant and Tom Grant; his sisters, Helen Foley, and Kathleen Clowes, and his stepson Edward Joseph Maset.

Visitation took place at 4-7 P.M. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at William F. Hogan Funeral Home, 135 Main St., Highland Falls, NY. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, August 19th , at Blessed Sacrament Chapel, 19 Theresia Way, Fort Montgomery, NY.
