Kinney announces write-in campaign

Fort Montgomery resident Pete Kinney has announced that he will again run for the Town of Highlands supervisor position in the November 3 election.

“Voters of the Town of Highlands, I am seeking your write-in vote to be the town supervisor. on Tuesday, Nov. 3,” he said this week. “I am an independent seeking to represent all the citizens of the Town of Highlands. I stand for the end of business as usual and the slow death of our town.”

Kinney lost to current Supervisor Bob Livsey 603 to 537 in November 2025, for a one-year seat leading the Town Board. This year, whomever is elected supervisor will receive a two-year seat.

Kinney said he promises “change and action on your behalf”.

“My priorities will be the return on 1000 acres to the Town of Highlands from West Point for economic development; the repaving and repair of Rt. 9W by New York State DOT; town taxes will not be raised for the next two years; the Mountain Ave. school and the Sacred Heart school will find new purposes to serve our community; and derelict property owners will be forced to clean up their eyesores,” he said.

Kinney added he will be “transparent and a presence in Goshen, Albany and Washington working on your behalf”.

Livsey has served as town supervisor for 21 years. The supervisor seat is the only one to be voted on in the Town of Highlands in November. Other state (governor, comptroller, attorney general, etc.) officials including Senator James Skoufis’ 42nd District Senate seat and Assemblyman Chris Eachus’ 99th District Assembly seat are also up for election, as is the Orange County Sheriff Paul Arteta’s position.
