There’s a new businesswoman on Main Street in Highland Falls – Mimi Redmond.

She owns Nails by Mimi, which is located inside Academy Fades & Braids at 309 Main St. Redmond is a military spouse and West Point resident who has lived in the community since the spring of 2024, and she’s the mom of a new freshman at O’Neill High School and a four-year-old who just started preschool at West Point. The family has recently lived in Texas, Florida, Hawaii and Germany, and it was in 2010 that she became a licensed nail technician.

She’s happy to be here, and if your nails need some work, you might want to make her acquaintance. She’s been open since mid-May.

“People here have been so nice,” she said from her salon this past week. “And I love how close I am to home – two minutes to get here and two minutes to get parked and make my way inside. That’s a great commute!”

As a person, and at Nails by Mimi, she’s a believer in self-care, for everyone, and promises a relaxing time in her salon. She sees just one customer at a time, and books appointment times accordingly with what the customer is looking for – simple basic manicures or more extensive designs.

“I love the feeling when someone is in my chair and they’re happy with what I have done when we finish,” she said. “Nails are something that people do for themselves.”

The salon was busy this past weekend with cadets seeking nail services before Ring Weekend, and she expects the months ahead will be busy with special events and the approaching holidays. She’s ready. She is in her salon Wednesdays through Saturdays (10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays).

At Nails by Mimi the services available are classic manicures, dry pedicures, Russian manicures, extensions, gel manicures, specialty designed nails, and, of course, ‘fixes’ and ‘removals’ of nails from other salons. Her customers are women, men and children, and she’s looking forward to meeting more local residents in her role.
