Richard Gerard Gibney, 76 of Trent Woods, NC passed away peacefully at his home on August 16, 2024.  Richard was born on April 16, 1948 in Cornwall, NY to Frank and Madeline Gibney.

Richie grew up in Ft Mongomery, New York.  Hobbies included cooking, restoring furniture, remodeling, entertaining, and a true car enthusiast. Richie paid close attention to detail with all that he did.  He also loved his dogs.  Richie traveled coast to coast and over the past 27 years with his partner in life, Kathy. From Brooklyn to Long Beach then settling in New Bern to retire. Through the years he has several close pets, especially his rottweilers Bear and Bogart who lived a royal life. Richie had an infectious laugh and enjoyed hosting and entertaining. He loved his family near and far and kept all his family in prayer. Richie had a strong Catholic faith. 

He is survived by Kathy Murphy, daughters Laura Brooks (Curtis) and Melanie Sharpes (Jason) of Texas, grandchildren Kyle Nealey, Ryan Nealey (Sierra), Ayrn Yanez (Blaine), Sarah Guerrero-Heil (Justus), Kenneth Guerrero, Max Guerrero, Alisea Meza and Joseph Meza, great-grandchildren Kynadee, Kinsley, Fletcher, Mylo, Theo, Brixton, Rylynn, and Easton.

Richard is also survived by sister-in-law Denise Gibney of New York, Peggy Engler (Edie), Florida, Maureen Naylor (Brian) of Florida, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews from coast-to-coast all who loved him very much, including the Best nephew ever, Frank Gibney (Gladys) of Florida.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Butch Gibney, Patrick Gibney, daughter Adele Meza, grandson Nathan Meza, great-granddaughter Adley Nealey, and special friend Ron Chaney.

In lieu of flowers, please make any memorial donations to Knights of Columbus, New Bern, or St Jude’s in his honor.

A Memorial Celebration of Richie’s life will be held in the spring of 2025, for all family and friends.
