Monarch butterflies typically begin their migration south from New York in October of every year – this one, likely a female, was probably fueling up on nectar from the clover she was sitting on as the photo was snapped on October 7. The next generation of monarchs will likely return to the Hudson Valley in late May or early June … something to look forward to!
