Carolyn M. Zogg, age 89, of Lower Lake Road, Lodi, N..Y., died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

Carolyn was born in Penn Yan on December 14, 1931, daughter of the late Rev. Chester V. and Mildred C. Zogg. She was a graduate of Syracuse University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts.  She later earned a master’s degree in Fine Arts from SUNY New Paltz, with a concentration in ceramics.

Ms. Zogg worked as an Administrative Assistant for Deafness Research Foundation in New York City.  She then served as Director of Child Find of America in New Paltz for several years.  She subsequently worked as Director for the Seneca Falls Historical Society, Becker House Museum. She is co-author of “The Seneca Army Depot” published in 2012.

Ms. Zogg served her community and church throughout her life.  She participated in an annual Tennis Tournament to raise funds for AFS. She is past President of the Highland Free Library. She served as President and Trustee Emeritus of the Lodi Historical Society, working on the restoration of the Hook Tracker Organ.  She was the driving force in a successful campaign to preserve the Queen’s Castle at Fossenvue by having it listed on the National Historic Register.  She was the Choir Director at Camillus and Highland Methodist churches.  She served on the Vestry at Ascension Holy Trinity parish in West Park, NY; on a Diocesan Committee at St. John the Divine in New York City; and on the Vestry at Trinity Church in Seneca Falls where she was instrumental in obtaining a grant for the restoration of the Lady Chapel.  She was an active communicant of Christ Church in Willard.  Ms. Zogg was a member of the Eastern Star, PEO and the 20th Century Club. Ms. Zogg enjoyed gardening, canning and photography, but her greatest joy was people.  Her Christmas caroling parties in Highland were legendary, as were her bread and butter pickles.  Nothing gave her more pleasure than to host family and friends at her home on Seneca Lake.

She is survived by her children; the Rev. Steven W. Schunk (Douglas Rackow) of Highland, NY; Catherine M. Schunk (Michael Platek) of Guilderland, NY; Philip W. Schunk Jr. (Tracy Hockings) of Auckland, New Zealand; Peter A. Schunk (Janice Barnish) of East Hampton, CT; her stepchildren Katherine Gass Stowe (Chris Stowe) of Walpole, NH; James Gass of Smithfield, RI;  her former husband Philip W. Schunk of Highland, NY; her grandchildren Mark, Emma and Andrew Platek; Matthew and Hannah Schunk-Hockings; James and Ryan Egan; and Caiolynn Gass;  and her loving nephews and nieces. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Peter F. Gass, her brothers Frederick Zogg and Norman Zogg, and her sisters -in-law Jane Mosher, Clara Zogg, and Margaret Zogg.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 pm on Friday, October 8, 2021, at the Lodi Historical Society Building, Main Street, Lodi, NY.  A Memorial Service will follow at 4:00 pm officiated by the Rev. Lesley Adams of Christ Church in Willard.  A reception will follow the ceremony.  Burial will be held privately at the West Lodi Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Carolyn’s memory to:  Lodi Historical Society Organ Fund, PO Box 279, Lodi, NY 14860.
