Elizabeth A. Alfonso, a lifelong resident of Milton and Highland entered eternal rest at Lutheran Care Center, Poughkeepsie, New York on March 26, 2022.  

 Elizabeth was born June 16th, 1927 in Milton New York to Anna Kiwus Bonin and Frank Bonin.  

On December 3rd, 1954 she married the late Daniel L. Alfonso.  She is survived by her sister Martha Bonin Nannucci and husband Marcello Nannucci of Las Vegas, NV, her six children, Richard Alfonso of Highland, Michelle Watson of Highland, Daniel L. Alfonso Jr. and his wife Cathy of Milton, Amelia (Melja) Alfonso-Brown and her husband Bob of Holly Springs, NC, Gina Hansut of Highland, and Frank Alfonso and his wife Sharon of Highland.  She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Carole Alfonso and son-in-law Paul Hansut.  She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Melissa Alfonso of Highland, Loren Watson and his wife Trisha of Saugerties, Daniel Alfonso of Phoenix, AZ, Megan Hansut Primo and her husband Jake of Highland, Paul Hansut of Highland, Frank Alfonso Jr., of Highland, Shalya Brown and her wife Amy of Plant City, FL, and Jeffrey Brown and his wife Kristina of Helena, AL. Great grandchildren, Kyla Watson, Carolina Watson, Christian Watson, Lorenzo Andamasaris, Carmelo Primo and Aiden Brown.  Elizabeth was Grandma to everyone including all her grandchildren, great grandchildren, her nieces, nephews, great nieces and her very close nieces Shawna Nannucci Stafford, Gianna Nannucci, and Melja Nannucci of Las Vegas, NV.  She also is survived by her cherished fur baby and constant companion Izzy.

Elizabeth loved her family, her home, and her community.  Her house was always full of life and was joked to be Grand Central Station with family and friends constantly in and out daily. She was a lover of gardening and yard sales and was always ready to go for a ride at any time.

In addition to taking care of her family, she worked at Western Publishing in Poughkeepsie where she met her husband.  She also worked at the Hudson Valley Nursing Center as a secretary and worked for over 20 years at St. Augustine’s Parish Rectory as a secretary.  She held a position as an Ulster County Legislator taking over her husband Daniels position after he passed.  She then ran again for two more terms and won on her own merit.  Her last position which she held into her 90s was Town of Lloyd Historian in Highland.

Her community work was evident having volunteered in many areas including Ulster County Community Action, Girl Scouts, Brownies, Boy Scouts Highland Little League, Church Thanksgiving and Food Drives, Red Cross and March of Dimes.  She was involved in all types of fundraising from BBQ dinners to dinner and dances.

Her church service for St. Augustine’s Parish included being a member of the Parish Council, Member of the Catholic Daughters for 43 years, St. Augustine’s Bazaar and Co-Chair of the first St. Augustine’s Bazaar Flea Market working both for many years, and Coordinator of the CCD program for religious education.

She was a wonderful mother to her family and a wonderful friend to all.  She will be dearly missed.

The family would like to thank everyone at Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie, New York for the wonderful care they gave her in the last few months. 

A Mass of Christian Burial, will be celebrated Wednesday, March 30, 2022 10:00 am at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church. Burial will take place immediately after at Highland Cemetery.
