Friends of the Library present an autumn raffle

The Friends of the Marlboro Library are holding a raffle for an autumn-themed gift basket filled with scented soap, coffee, jam, fall decorations, and more!  Raffle tickets are $1 each, or 6 for $5, and may be purchased at the Marlboro Library, where the basket is on display near the circulation desk.  You must be over 21 to purchase raffle tickets, and proceeds will go towards future Library programs.  The drawing will be held on Saturday, October 15 during the Friends of the Marlboro Library’s Family Fall Festival and Used Book Sale! 

Join the Friends of the Marlboro Library for outdoor fun and games for the whole family on Saturday, October 15 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Activities will include a fall story time, outdoor games, fall crafts, face/hand painting, snacks and more! Halloween costumes are encouraged!
The Book Barn will be open from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., for the last time before closing for the season, so stock up on your used books for the winter!

Tickets are $10 per family and are available at the circulation desk.  The rain date for this event will be Sunday, October 16, same time.


Middle schoolers!  On Wednesdays from 4:30 - 5:15 p.m. join a certified yoga instructor from Mindful Yoga with Liz to practice yoga and mindfulness. Bring your yoga mat or a large towel and a water bottle. Previous yoga experience is not required. Classes will take place on Oct. 5, 19, Nov. 2 & 16. Fall is here, and it is time to sign up for preschool programming at the Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library in Milton.  Three program series begin the week of October 9.

Nature Kids: Stories, Activities and More!  Join Tammy Foster, lifelong early-childhood educator, for a supercharged story-time exploring the natural world.  Ages 3 to 5.  Mondays, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.

Music & Movement!  Tina de Leeuw, owner, and music therapist of Grow Music, leads this early learning group, designed to support child development, and maximize fun!  Ages 1 to 3. 

Tuesdays, 10 to 10:30 a.m.  Ages 3 to 5, Tuesdays, 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. 

Early Concept Lab!  Preschoolers bring their adults to this play-and-learn group.  Themed activity areas introduce letters, numbers, shapes, colors, sizes and more.  Ages 1 to 5.  Fridays, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.  

The Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library’s new season of Tea, Talks and Workshops runs from October 14 to November 18 (with no program on Veterans Day).  Designed for adults, the free workshops take place in the library’s Community Room from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.  The line-up for October follows:  October 14, Gourmet Chocolate Pretzels & More; October 21, Fabric Pumpkins; October 28, Take Home a Gnome.  Materials for creative projects are provided.  Reservations are required.  Call (845-795-2200) or e-mail (miltonlibrary@live.com) the Milton Library to register.


St. Mary’s Church

October 3 -7, Father Tom will be away at Pastor’s School. Unfortunately, we won’t be having Adoration on Friday October 7 and there won’t be any daily mass. I have included the local churches and times for daily mass.
St. Augustine’s Church in Highland Monday-Friday at 7 a.m.

Our Lady of Fatima in Plattekill Tuesday-Friday at 10 a.m.
Sacred Heart in Newburgh Monday-Friday 9 a.m. (in the chapel)

There will be a blessing of the animals after the 11 a.m. Mass on October 2 – in the parking lot by the rectory. Please bring your pets (or any animal!) to be blessed in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, who saw God’s goodness in all of creation. All are welcome.

Marlboro Unico takes on Oktoberfest!
We will once again be at Benmaryl Winery, Sunday, October 2, from 12 - 4 p.m., with plenty of good German and Italian Food and the beer truck! Tickets are $50 Children under 12 years old and under are free and do not need a ticket. IDs will be checked at the door.
Menu consists of NY Strip Steak, Linguini with Clam Sauce, Sausage and Peppers, Bratwursts, Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, German Potato Salad and German Cucumber Salad. Pretzels will be served with dipping sauces, homemade apple cider donuts and coffee.
There will also be raffle tickets available to purchase to win a variety of prizes from local businesses. All monies raised are given directly back to our community through various donations and scholarships. Any questions, contact Mike Carofano at mcarofano91@gmail.com.

Attention, Marlboro Dukes sports fans! Please be aware that all Varsity Football home games have been rescheduled to begin at 6 p.m., instead of the previously scheduled start time of 5 p.m.​

Weekly Recipe
Slow-Cooker Tater Tot Casserole Prep: 25 min. Cook: 6 hours + standing YIELD: 12 servings. What’s not to love about classic Tater Tot casserole— especially when it’s made in the slow cooker? You’ll want to add this family-pleasing potluck favorite to your regular rotation. —Nick Iverson, Denver, Colorado
Ingredients:
2 pounds ground beef

1 large onion, chopped
1 pound sliced fresh mushrooms
3 garlic cloves, minced
2 cans (10-3/4 ounces each) condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 pound frozen cut green beans
1 bag (32 ounces) frozen Tater Tots
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Directions

In a large skillet cook beef over medium-high heat until no longer pink, 5-6 minutes, breaking into crumbles; drain and transfer to a 5-qt. slow cooker. Add onions and mushrooms to skillet; cook over medium-high heat until vegetables are tender, 8-10 minutes. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer. Stir in condensed soup, salt and pepper. Place vegetable mixture in slow cooker; add green beans and stir to combine. Top with Tater Tots and cheese.
Cook, covered, on low 6 hours. Let stand, uncovered, 15 minutes before serving. Add green beans and stir to combine. Top with Tater Tots and cheese.
