Harry Decker died at home on October 31, 2020. Harry was born on January 27, 1960. He was the son of the late Douglas and Lena Decker, and the grandson of his loving grandparents, Lena and Andrew Tompkins who raised him.

Harry is survived and lovingly remembered by his fiancé Judith Mayle, her children and family.

His desire to help people was the driving force as a 30 year life member of the Plattekill Fire Department, past Commissioner of the Plattekill Fire District and Fire Lieutenant.

Besides being a firefighter, Harry owned his own company Newburgh Excavating. He was a skilled machinery operator and he moved the earth like no one could. Harry loved driving his big red Mack truck and avoiding the State DOT police. If he wasn’t on his machines, he was in his garage working on vehicles, fabricating or welding. Harry was a master mechanic and welder, the only man we knew who could weld aluminum. Harry enjoyed boating and flying planes especially with his son Harry, Jr.
Harry was rarely without his dogs Lily and Tallulah, and enjoyed spending time with his horse Zeus.

Harry is also survived by his wife Mary Decker, and his sons Harry Decker Jr. and fiancé Jess King; Michael Decker; James Purpura and his wife Concetta; his daughters Bethany Decker and her friend Jason Meyer; and Sarah Decker;. His loving grandchildren, Tiana Decker and her husband Jacob; Joel and Jayden Garcia; and his great grandson, Theodore Matthew. Harry loved his children and grandchildren and did everything he could for each one of them who also miss him terribly.
Harry is loved by his extended family of Decker’s, Dawes’, Smiths’ and Colandrea’s, and he is survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. During his lifetime, Harry made many friends who also share in this loss.

Harry is predeceased by his brother Douglas Decker, and his nephew Douglas Decker.

Harry always believed that the Lord our God was his passenger in this life, and we know he is with the Lord now.
