Harry Potter mural graces Middle School classroom

Posted

Seven Marlboro students collaborated with Chelsea Zehnacker this summer to paint a Harry Potter-themed mural inside the Grade 7 ELA teacher’s classroom at Marlboro Middle School. Explaining why the project was important, Zehnacker said, “Kids thrive in environments that are inviting, creative, and—pun intended—magical! We have so many talented artists in Marlboro that I wanted to showcase them while encouraging my current students to pursue their own passions, explore and create.”

Madison Pitkin, a recent Marlboro graduate, assisted senior Autumn Pitkin in creating the room’s stag patronus wall. Seniors Amanda Robertson and Jasmine Taylor worked together on the upper-level animal patronuses and Professor Snape. Meanwhile, Grade 8 student Laila Vega and sophomore Natalie Terwilliger partnered to create the brick wall border that spans the classroom, as well as the quote wall. The girls were assisted by freshman Sam Saltamachia in the preparatory stages.

The students are thrilled with the end result and proud to leave a legacy to share with future Dukes. Their artwork is truly magical!

Did you know that the National School Lunch Program waiver that provided free meals to students during the COVID-19 pandemic expired on June 30, 2022? This means that school meals will no longer automatically be free for everyone. Families must now submit an application and qualify for free or reduced-price meals.

There are additional benefits associated with accessing the free and reduced meal program. Qualifying families may also receive discounts on SAT, ACT and AP testing, as well as college application fees, reduction in Internet costs and other eligible discounts. By applying, families are also helping ensure our school district receives the appropriate level of financial support from the State.
