It was a rough home opener for the Highland girls’ soccer team.

Rhinebeck got goals from seven different players in a 7-1 win over the Huskies on Friday afternoon.

After falling behind 7-0, the Huskies got their lone goal with 1:21 remaining in the game, when Ava Mazzetti put the ball in the back of the net.

The Hawks pressed the offensive attack all game, and Hope Williams was forced to make 19 saves.

Roxanne Clark, Vanessa Codacovi, Addison Kalafala, Margaret Weld, Amanda O’Han, Julia Dutch and Sophia Schofield scored a goal each for the Hawks.

The Huskies also lost, 7-2, to Ellenville on Wednesday when they opened their season. Mazzetti scored both of Highland’s goals and Macayla Goodenough made four saves.
Adriana Anderson and Gabi Castro scored two goals each and an assist for Ellenville. Ashley Nunuvero had a goal and an assist. Jessica McHugh and Lyla Denman scored a goal each.

The last several seasons have been a struggle for the Huskies, which over the past several years lost its JV team and a youth program, making it difficult to replenish the high school ranks.
