Legislature seeks applicants to serve on various county boards

Legislative Chair Tracey Bartels announced that the County Legislature is accepting applications to serve on the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency (UCRRA) board of directors.

Selected applicants will serve a three-year term ending on December 31, 2025. Members of the UCRRA board of directors serve without compensation and continue to hold office until their successors are appointed and qualify. The UCRRA board typically meets on the fourth Thursday of the month at the UCRRA Offices located at 999 Flatbush Road in Kingston, New York.

The Agency is responsible for compliance with State and Federal laws, rules, and regulations regarding the management and long-term obligations of closed solid waste management facilities and currently operating facilities under its direct control. The Agency’s responsibilities also include education and public outreach efforts to encourage, support, and foster participation by the public in reducing, reusing, recycling, and composting portions of the existing solid waste stream. The County Legislature is also accepting applications from active farmers to serve on the Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) Board of Directors.

The available seat on the SWCD Board is reserved for an active farmer. The selected applicant will be appointed to serve the remainder of a three-year term ending on December 31, 2023. Soil and Water Conservation District Board members serve without compensation and continue to hold office until their successors are appointed. The board typically meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 5 Park Lane in Highland.

For over forty years, the Soil and Water Conservation District Board has been responsible for the direct design and implementation of engineering and agronomic practices to improve water quality and preserve the County’s natural resources in rural and urban capacities.

There are many volunteer opportunities for Ulster County residents to serve on countywide advisory groups and play an essential role in Ulster County government. Whether created by the Ulster County Charter, County Legislature, or state or federal statutes, each advisory group was established to provide opportunities for citizens to participate in local government and the effective and efficient delivery of services. Advisory group members serve without compensation.
