Two games into the new season and the Marlboro girls’ soccer team is a struggling team.

The Rondout Valley Ganders scored eight first-half goals on their way to an 8-2 win over the Dukes on Thursday afternoon at Marlboro Central High School.

The Dukes are a young team with only three seniors – their captains Stephanie Petrie, Alivia Menser and Caitlin Liu. The Dukes also have three juniors. The rest of the team is made up of sophomores and younger.

The roster also includes three eighth graders, including Olivia Morales, who was involved with both Marlboro’s goals.

With the Dukes trailing 8-0 in the end of the first half, Morales broke through the Rondout Valley defense in the 29th minute and put Marlboro on the board. She also fed a crossing pass to Liu, who converted on the Dukes’ second goal of the game with less than a minute remaining in the game.

The Dukes were scheduled to take the field again on Monday when they host the Wallkill Panthers.
