The Marlboro School Board honored students Lex Antonelli and Jacqueline Rivera as their PTSA Reflection winners for 2022.

High School Principal Ryan Lawler said these students, “put some amazing work together and we’ve very happy to celebrate them tonight.”

Lawler pointed out that the National Reflections program provides opportunities for students, “to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by pre-selected themes while increasing community awareness of the importance of the Arts in education.”

Myra Rivera, who coordinates the Reflections program for the district, said the theme this year was, ‘Show Your Voice.’ Lex won for a photograph he entitled, ‘Moonlight Over the Ocean,’ In his artist statement he wrote that, “In my life I have been guided by my faith, love of people and family values. I always look for the positive in all things. I take pictures that capture my voice; the voice of positivity and hope. This picture reflects my values and brings peace and happiness to all that view it.”

Jackie submitted her “Bubbles of Positivity” work in the Visual Arts category. In her artist statement she wrote, “This art piece signifies how showing your inner voice can affect other people. People have been known to demonstrate insecurities by bringing people down, which means they may have a negative outlook of themselves. Positive thinking can immediately reverse negative thinking and it can lead to others being affected by these positivity bubbles...The positive voices in these people’s heads project outward to the world, which eventually leads to others noticing. The influence of positive thinking among other people can have more of an effect than people may seem to realize.”

Board President Michael Connors congratulated the honorees, saying, “That’s outstanding work.”
