Marlboro Seniors plan ‘Maskerade’ Ball

Last week Marlboro High School Principal Ryan Lawler gave a preview of upcoming events for the graduating Class of 2021.
“It’s been a very restrictive environment for a long time and just a few weeks ago it became a little bit easier to host events and put things together. We’ve partnered with our senior leader group and our advisers and have made a lot or progress in terms of our plans,” he said.

The Senior Student Council, led by President Jessica Singh, Vice President Zachary Zehr, Treasurer Bryn Ercolani and Secretary Yanique Brown, put together a video presentation for the school board on the Class of 2021’s end of the year “Maskerade Ball,” scheduled for June 3 at The Barn at Nostrano Vineyards in Milton. Singh said because of Covid 19 their class was unable to have a Junior Prom, a Senior Class Trip, “as well as many other once in a lifetime events.”

Singh said the fee for the evening will cover the food and other miscellaneous costs but Nostrano owners Kayleigh and Nicholas Bozzo have generously donated the grounds for the evening. She said all Covid-19 safety protocols will be followed – temperature checks, masks required unless they are eating, assigned seating for contact tracing, spacing as per the venue requirements, students organized into color coded groups with wristbands and students will be breathalyzed. The event will be supervised by a student nurse, a student resource officer, a school health official, the building administration, teachers, advisers and about 12 chaperons.

Bryan Ercolani said this event will allow the class of 2021 to come together in safe way, following all protocols, and would be a fitting way to end their high school careers. He said this is the first time in a year that many in the class will come together for an event.

“This will mean the world to us as we prepare to finish our high school career and move on to our futures,” he said. “It will leave us with fond memories from the end of our interesting high school experience, to say the least.”

Lawler thanked the student council members who have coordinated planning for this event with their class advisers, Mrs. Brady, Mr. DeVenuto and Mrs. Thomas.

Lawler said this senior class has, “had a rough go of it this last year, all of us have, but the seniors have missed some things and this is really an opportunity to get them together, to celebrate them and have a good time and a chance for them to make memories before they leave high school.”

Lawler presented as list of activities that will round out the 2020-21 school year: in April: Grad Gram, Chalk Your Parking Spot, Adopt a Senior Begins

In May: Lawn signs, Senior College/Job/Career Day Shirt Day, Senior Marqui on the Field Begins, Senior Names on Front Road Sign, Senior Spirit Week, Senior Video, Top 10 Honored, Senior Committed Division I/II NCAA Student Athletes Honored

In June: Senior “Maskerade”, Senior Drive by Parade, Not your Normal Cap & Gown pickup, Adopt a Senior Deliveries, Virtual Senior Awards & Scholarship recognition, Senior Scavenger Hunt, Senior Breakfast and Graduation.

“By no means is this an all encompassing list, however, these are things we know we can do and there are some other ideas in the works as well,” said Lawler.

Board member Karen Brooks’ comments reflected the support of the full school board.

“I am happy that this is able to be done because these kids have been locked up for so long,” she said. “This is a great idea.”
