Mary Elizabeth Lagano Miller, 104, of Marlboro, passed away on December 7, 2020

Mary was born on September 3, 1916 in Witherbee, N.Y. and was the daughter of late Salvatore and Bettina Manglass Lagano.

Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband, Julius “Jay” Miller, who passed away in 1981, along with 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Mary’s family grew up in the town of Haverstraw, N.Y., where she met and married Jay in the year 1939. The ceremony took place at St. Peters Church, an association in which she was actively involved. Mary also spent years as a beautician and seamstress before moving to Marlboro, N.Y. in 1946, where she had since resided.

While in Marlboro, Mary and her husband purchased a small fruit farm that they owned and operated for over a decade before selling. Mary then began working at a local dress factory for many years. Mary was a devout catholic and a proud member of St. Mary’s Parish. She was actively involved in various community organizations such as the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, TOMVAC Ambulance Corps and AARP. In addition to volunteering, Mary also loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, Italy and the Holy Land. Mary was extremely proud of her family and never missed an opportunity to show her support or attend a family function. She is survived by her three sons, Jay of Seattle, WA., Michael and his wife Diane, of Marlboro, N.Y. and Robert of Freehold, N.Y. Mary is also survived by her 6 grandchildren- Erica Miller, Aaron Miller, Rebecca Miller, Keri Miller-Minckler and husband Rich, Megan Marquis and husband Sean and Garrett Miller and 3 great-grandchildren- Kayden, Maddox and Kinsley. Additionally, she is survived by her beloved nephew, Richard O’Connell of Melbourne beach, FL. and many other nieces and nephews.

Mary was extremely grateful for her family and friends in both Haverstraw and Marlboro areas. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Parish (P.O. Box 730, Marlboro, NY 12542) or Sisters of the Presentation (84 Presentation Way, New Windsor, NY 12553).

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at The DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Route 9W, Marlboro, NY. Facial coverings must be worn in the funeral home at all times.

The family would also like family and friends to know that a memorial gathering to celebrate Mary’s life will take place in the future for those unable to attend during these unprecedented times. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Friday morning at 10am at St. Mary’s Church, 1209 Route 9W, Marlboro. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Marlboro.
