Posted

Democrat and Working Families Party candidate Jen Metzger was elected to the Office of Ulster County Executive this evening, defeating Republican and Conservative Party opponent, James Quigley, III by over 10 points.

“I am deeply honored by the overwhelming support of Ulster County voters, and I’m excited to get to work on the transition in the coming weeks before taking office on January 1. Thank you to everyone who supported my candidacy, to my campaign staff, and to the many volunteers around the county who worked tirelessly on this grassroots campaign,”  said Jen Metzger. “I look forward to building on the great work of former County Executive Pat Ryan, in partnership with the County Legislature and our communities. Together, we can create a resilient, sustainable, and thriving local economy that leaves no one behind.”

Metzger will take office on January 1, 2023, to fill the vacancy created by former County Executive Pat Ryan’s election to Congress, and will serve out the remaining year of his four-year term, relieving Acting County Executive Johanna Contreras, who was designated by Ryan in accordance with the County Charter to serve until the next election.

“Jen Metzger is an exceptional leader, and Ulster County showed up to confirm that she’s who they trust to move us forward in these challenging times,” said Ulster County Sheriff Juan Figueroa. “I have no doubt our residents will be rewarded for their faith in Jen because of her deep understanding of local and state issues and her passion to make a difference. Congratulations, Jen!”

“I’m thrilled that the people of Ulster County elected Jen Metzger to serve as our next executive. Jen brings the expertise, experience, and dedication necessary to succeed as a leader. We face many challenges as a county and a nation. With her election, I am filled with a tremendous sense of optimism. I look forward to working together to improve the lives of Ulster County residents,” said Ulster County Legislature Chair Tracey Bartels.

Metzger is a former State Senator and Rosendale Town Council Member currently serving on the New York State Cannabis Control Board.
