Responsible bodies

Unfortunately, I am not surprised that the Chair of the Orange County New York Libertarian Party chose to engage in a personal attack on an individual who disagrees with him.  I am interested in the issues, not in the person, and did my best to address them.

As a person of faith I believe that my body is a gift of God to be used responsibly.  He’s the owner.  But for the sake of argument I will accept that we own our own bodies.  And as owners we must use them responsibly.  To refuse to take the vaccine is being irresponsible for one’s own body.

Our responsibility, however, is not limited to ourselves.  We are also responsible to not harm others.  Thus the necessity of wearing masks.  When we act irresponsibly toward ourselves and others who is responsible for protecting us and those with whom we come into contact?  Only those who have been elected to protect us.  “Libertarian” must not be understood to be “Anarchistic,” interested only in our own little concerns.  The rebellion against vaccine and mask has more than a little tinge of the five-year-old who cries out, “Nobody can tell me what to do.”

A mature perspective says that we are responsible for ourselves and responsible for not harming those with whom we come into contact.
