An important event is upcoming in Kaplan Hall’s OBTC Great Room 101 on Thursday, October 6. At 7 pm renowned Farmer and Activist, Karen Washington will deliver her lecture on food justice entitled Growing Your Own Food is an Act of Resilience and Power.

Newburgh Urban Farm and Food Initiative [NUFFI] and Cultural Affairs are collaborating on this educational happening during which Karen Washington will discuss her method of persistence and success about this vital subject. Her talk will be a conversation with the audience and a call to action for citizen involvement in designing an equitable and healthy food system for everyone in the community.

Washington has worked since 1985 bringing community gardens to the NYC and other urban settings. She now co-owns Rise and Root Farm which is on the black dirt of Chester, NY.
