Ulster BOCES serves up new culinary career opportunity

Ulster BOCES is offering an opportunity with a new Culinary Arts program beginning this September.

The 300-hour program, where participants can earn a nationally recognized Chef de Cuisine Certification, as well as a ServSafe Certification and Certificate of Completion, is being offered through the American Culinary Federation.

The program has many benefits for those looking for employment in the culinary field. Since many employers in the hospitality industry are looking for trained chefs, or may have staff they would like to sponsor for advanced training, the course aligns well with the Department of Labor’s reporting of projected career growth. In addition, qualified applicants may seek funding for the course through the Ulster County Office of Education and Training.

Instruction will take place between a classroom setting and professional kitchen setting, at the Ulster BOCES Career and Technical Center in Port Ewen from September 12 through June 8, from 4 - 8 p.m. Five Saturday classes are also required.

The cost for the course is $2,450, plus a $600 food fee. To register, call the Ulster BOCES Adult Career Education Department at (845) 331-5050, ext. 3205.
