More than 150 artists will participate in the Twelfth Annual Newburgh Open Studios organized by Gerardo Castro and Michael Gabor, co-owners of Newburgh Art Supply taking place on Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25, from Noon - 6 p.m. each day. It is a free self-guided tour.

Maps will be available at Newburgh Art Supply, 5 Grand Street, both days of the tour, starting at 10 a.m. Newburgh Art Supply will be the central location for tour information and extra studio tour maps. This tour will introduce visitors to Newburgh’s dynamic arts community with the opening of artists’ work studios, alternative gallery spaces, outdoor public art and pop-up shows. COVID compliance: All studios and participating locations will be self-regulating.

Newburgh Open Studios features a diverse selection of styles and artistic disciplines, from avant garde video, photography, sculpture, performance art, printmaking, and traditional oil painting. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to meet and talk with emerging and established artists and craftspeople in spaces rarely open to the public. Much of the self-guided tour is ‘walkable’ and includes Regal Bag, Atlas, The Foundry, Ann Street Studios, Holden Arts, Holland Tunnel Gallery, Wireworks, Newburgh Mercantile, Ted Cycle, Glenlily, Ann Street Gallery, ADS Gallery, Safe Harbors - Black Renaissance Festival, Grit Works, Elijah Wheat Showroom, Grand Street Gallery, SUNY Orange Mindy Ross Gallery and Strongroom, as well as live/work studios in the Historic District.

Art Installation Lights up historic Dutch Church! Presented by the Strongroom arts organization, Liz Nielsen’s “Forcefield” is a large scale, site specific installation at the city’s historic Dutch Reformed Church at 134 Grand Street. For the piece, Nielsen has “encased” the 1835 Greek Revival church in a glowing, 60-foot-tall “forcefield” of lights that respond to the sound of the community’s heartbeats. ‘Forcefield’ will be viewable every night from sunset until midnight.

The 8th annual Glenlily Grounds, organized by Lacey Fekishazy, returns as part of Newburgh Open Studios: 27 artists participate in an exhibition of outdoor site-specific art and sculpture spread out on the 11-acre Glenlily estate, located at 532 Grand Avenue, Balmville.

This year we also see the opening of Holden Arts at 85 Grand Street. Holden Arts will be hosting a group exhibition of nine artists at the historic Holden Home. Newburgh photographer Lori Grinker will be premiering her book on boxing champion Mike Tyson: a collection of rare and never-before-seen photographs from the 1980s and 1990s of the boxing superstar. Grinker will be having a book signing Sept. 24 - 25 during Newburgh OPEN Studios.
