42-unit development planned for Crawford

The Town of Crawford could potentially get a new large residential development if all goes well with approvals and development.

The building, which would be located at 65 Boniface Dr., would contain 42 residential apartment units with 39 one bedrooms, 2 two bedrooms, and one three bedroom which would be utilized by a full-time caretaker. They are also planning on including an elevator and a fancy entrance.

At the Crawford planning board meeting on September 14, Chairman Linda Zwart voiced concerns about a lack of parking and the small amount of two-bedrooms. The two-bedroom concern also came up at the October 26 planning board meeting.

The engineer group being used for the units, Pietrzak & Pfau, explained that this building will mostly house veterans and seniors.

“In most of his facilities like this for workforce housing, the residents are mostly seniors, even the veterans. Most of the younger residents are through Access,” said Engineer Vince Pietrzak.

They did add another two bedroom apartment as of October 26, as well as mentioning it would be a three-story-building. There is a building just like this in Wallkill, and Pietrzak explained that the state is looking for a duplicate of that.

The engineers are going to do a full set of plans including drainage, landscaping, lighting etc. to bring back to the board in a few weeks. The discussion is ongoing.
