Voters in the Bullville Fire District will decide next Tuesday on a proposal to build a new firehouse.that will be twice the size of the current one on Route 17K.

Voting will take place in the current firehouse between 6 and 9 p.m. on July 26. The proposal calls for a new 12,800 square foot firehouse to be built at a cost not to exceed $5.2 million. The district has set aside $700,000 from its capital reserve fund for the project, and is seeking to finance up to $4.5 million for the balance.

A public hearing, meanwhile, was held by the Crawford Planning Board on Wednesday, July 13, and it was decided by the planning board that the fire department needs to obtain a 60-70 foot variance before moving forward with the project. The department will return to the planning board in two weeks with the proper paperwork to get the project underway.

The planning board decided to keep the public hearing open until the next meeting on July 27.
