At the Adult Faith Formation meeting in May, there was a joyful celebration of Ordinations for two spiritually sparkling priests, Pastor, Rev. Fernando Hernandez who was ordained 34 years ago, and Parochial Vicar, Rev. Joseph Tyrrell who was ordained 35 years ago.
Fr. Fernando serves as a remarkable pastor of St. Patrick’s-St. Mary’s-Our Lady of the Lake Parish, as well as pastor for St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish. Fr. Fernando wishes to connect with his parishioners, the young and teens, and adults and elders. He is blessed with a spiritual strength, and a loving, and encouraging spirit to help. His homilies touch on healing, forgiveness, and God’s mercy. He is a terrific pastor, a shining light, who keeps the spirit and meaning of parish alive.
Fr. Joe is a wonderful spiritual priest for all the parishes, and he loves teaching a weekly Bible Study covering the Mass readings for upcoming Sunday. Fr. Joe brings the Gospel alive with teachings that are both spiritual and faithful, a true servant of God as he brings a spirit of joy and hope to life, sees harmony everywhere in God’s beautiful creation, especially in all creatures great and small, in total agreement with Saint Francis of Assisi.
Catholic War Veterans of the United States of America, Inc., Joseph R. Farina Memorial Post 386, Newburgh-New Windsor, held its annual Memorial Mass at Sacred Heart Church, May 25, with Celebrant Msgr. Peter Tran van Phat, and Deacons Tony Ferraiuolo and Thomas Neppl, both chaplains and members of the CWV Post.
Prior to the beginning of Mass, CWV members processed down the center aisle behind Cross Bearer Frank Rich, carrying the United States Flag (Ted Loughlin) and the CWV Post Flag (Tony Yozzo), which were placed in the sanctuary. Following them were two memorial wreath bearers, (NYS Commander Bruce Lubkeman and Jack D’Angelo), who also placed their wreaths in the sanctuary. The Tri Flag (Past Post Commander James D. Peloso) was then brought to the altar followed by the Celtic Cross (Post Commander Robert Schiela), which was placed at the top step of the Sanctuary. Post members who carried and placed individual military flags along the center aisle were (Richard Lay, Marines; Michael Lutz, Navy; Ray Lopez, Army; Steve Delgado, Air Force; Past Post Commander Robert Murphy, Coast Guard; Matt Infante, POW).
During Mass, CWV Members carried the gifts up to the Celebrant Msgr. Peter, and Post members also assisted with ushering duties. Sgt. Major Mary Kay Messenger, a Post member and soloist for the USMA Band at West Point, sang “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “America the Beautiful,” and traditional Mass hymns. Immediately following the Mass, CWV Post 386 held its memorial ceremony across the street from the church. Information and photo by James R. Formato.
