City of Newburgh camera infrastructure work is set to finally be completed by the end of this week which will now see all street cameras back online, connected and repaired.

Nicholas Crispino, Information Systems Manager for the City of Newburgh said he and his team, as of June 13, are 50 percent complete with the work since starting the previous week and are on their way to completion. The team is finalizing wireless links and doing some additional tree trimming.

During the city work session back in May, Crispino had presented an update on the work being done to address the status of the cameras in the city.

According to Crispino’s research, 34 street cameras were installed in 2016 in the City of Newburgh. However in 2018, 15 of those 34 cameras were detected to not be in usage due to connectivity issues or caused by physical damages.

When the 15 street cameras went down in 2018, according to Crispino, the City of Newburgh had applied for a Dormitory Authority of the State of New York [DASNY] grant in 2019. The DASNY grant funding would assist in the connectivity repair work of 11 of the 15 damaged cameras and additional DASNY funding would address the physical/structural damage to the remaining four cameras located in the city. By June 15, all 34 cameras in the city will be operational again and back on the network. Crispino stated to the city council that the completed work on the 15th will be able to expand the camera system by 10 more cameras.
