City police hold recruitment day

The City of Newburgh Police Department held a Recruitment Open House at the Activity Center at 401 Washington Street on Saturday, July 16.

During the course of the morning and afternoon, city residents stopped by, asked questions and spoke with several detectives and officers from the various city units within the department.
According to a city police form, the starting officer salary is $45,846.

Potential applicants for both English and Spanish speaking filled out various forms to be submitted to the department for review. Applications for the upcoming police officer exam are also available at cityofnewburgh.seamlessdocs.com/f/PoliceExam22 and can be mailed in to the police department. The police department will not be accepting applications in-person.
Applicants who are from the city will be given preference during the process. Candidates must reside in Orange or any of the other surrounding counties at the time of application. A $50 application filing fee is also required. Applicants must be between the ages of 19 - 35, have a high school diploma, a valid New York State driver’s license, must live within a 25 mile radius of the city and must be a United States citizen.

Potential applicants will be subject to take a written exam along with additional background checks, physical and medical tests and psychological screenings. The next exam date for the police department is Saturday, September 17.
