City sewer project underway

A contractor working for the City of Newburgh has commenced construction on the North Water Street Sewer Separation Project.

This project will separate the combined sewers in the area of North Water Street/North Street through the intersections of Powell Avenue, Central Avenue, Liberty Street and through the area of Park Place. Once completed, this project will reduce the frequency and duration of combined sewer overflows to the Hudson River. The project will also construct new ADA compliant curb ramps and repave the roadways through the project area.

Be aware that the contractor will be staging equipment and materials at the intersection of Park Place and Grand Avenue. Please allow extra time to travel through this area and obey all posted detour signs and traffic flaggers in the construction zone. This project is funded through a partial grant and low interest loan from the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation.
