The Cornwall Central High School girls’ indoor track and field team captured the Section 9 Class A Championship on Feb. 7, edging Monroe-Woodbury in a tightly contested meet at West Point.
Cornwall finished with 116 points, narrowly surpassing Monroe-Woodbury’s 112 to claim the title. The victory was led by a strong team effort under the guidance of Coach Feuer, Coach Creeden, and assistant coaches Moulton and Whitton.
Highlighting the individual performances, Aislinn Kelly secured a first-place finish in the 1500-meter racewalk with a time of 7:28.89, while Sophia Semo took the top spot in the 3000 meters at 10:19.55. Madison Riccardi delivered standout performances, winning both the long jump (16-08.00) and triple jump (35-05.50), in addition to placing third in the 55-meter hurdles (8.33).
Cornwall’s relay teams also played a pivotal role in securing the championship, with the 4x800 relay squad claiming first place in 9:47.10, and the 4x200 team finishing fourth at 1:49.50.
Additional strong performances included Madeline Larkin’s runner-up finish in the 600 meters (1:39.14) and second place in the long jump (16-03.00). Anderson Farina placed second in the high jump (5-00.00) and fifth in the pole vault (10-06.00), while Olivia Cibirka took third in the 1000 meters (3:03.55) and Kassandra Enos finished fourth in the 1500 meters (5:03.23).
Cornwall’s depth proved decisive, with multiple athletes contributing points across various events to clinch the championship title.
