Darla Garrett passed away on December 15, 2022 at the age of 53.  

She was born, to Ronald Smith and Aldea McCarthy Smith.  Darla is survived by her parents, Ronald and Aldea Smith, husband, Adam Garrett of 27 years, children, Nicholas Garrett of Walden, and Brett Garrett of New Richmond, WI.  As well as, sister, Deborah Lambert of WI, in-laws Kenny and Intira Garrett, brother-in-law, Shaun Garrett (Tisha), nieces, nephews, friends, and co-workers.

Darla graduated from Newburgh Free Academy and started her career at West Point Commissary as a teller.  Her devotion to West Point, her employees and service members was her pride and joy and is proven by her longevity and commitment to the Military Academy of 33 years.  Darla performed the most simple tasks with excellence.  Over the course of her career, she created many friends and brought comfort and joy to service members and their families.

Nicholas and Brett were the joy of her life.  Dar, was always determined, spunky, funny and devoted to family and friends.  Small but mighty.  She loved spending time in MN/WI to visit family and friends.  She enjoyed hearing all about her grand puppy, Leo, and the adventures of Leo.  Darla fought a courageous battle against cancer to the very end.  She spent her final days surrounded by family and her “Bestie” Debbie.  

Please help us celebrate Darla’s life.  A visitation will be held 6-8 pm on Tuesday, December 20th at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden.  Funeral services will be held a 11 a.m.on Wednesday, December 21st at the funeral home.  Burial will immediately follow the service in the Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Walden.  

Memorial contributions may be made in Darla’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
