David Frank Zavardino, also known affectionately as Railrunner, aged 77 years, of Montgomery, departed this life on the 1st of March, 2024.
Born on the 1st of December, 1946, in Manchester, England, he served with distinction in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1968.
Mr. Zavardino dedicated a commendable 38 years to the profession of Locomotive Engineer with NJ Transit and was employed with Manheim Auto Auction. His passions included a deep love for animals, an unwavering support for the Giants, and a lifelong interest in railroads.
A devoted family man, David leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Cindy Eininger Zavardino, and his cherished daughter, Leith Zavardino Gottula, along with her spouse Steve. He is also survived by his siblings Joseph Zavardino (Jeanne), Michele Duffy, Adrienne Piazza (Scott), Stephanie Hetlyn (John), and Barbara Zavardino, the widow of his late brother, Michael. He will be fondly remembered by his five grandchildren, Zachary, Kourtney, Gabrielle (Belle), Brady, and Larry; his five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Zavardino and Frances Duffy.
The family will receive friends and loved ones for a service to honor and celebrate the life of David on Sunday, March 10, 2024, from 2 until 6 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall located at 209 Main Street, Maybrook.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, March, 11, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen.
In David’s memory, and in lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the FOWA Animal Rescue or the Alzheimer’s Association. Your support will be a lasting tribute to his compassionate spirit and love for animals.
