DiSalvo names Ramus as deputy mayor

New Highland Falls Mayor Jim DiSalvo has named Trustee Jim Ramus as his deputy mayor; he took the action at the board’s April 7 reorganization meeting.

In other matters, DiSalvo named himself as police and fire commissioner; Ramus as sanitation/wastewater commissioner; Trustee Peter Carrol as water and building commissioner; and Trustee Aleena Olivia as Building Department/code enforcement liaison, and liaison to the Town Board. DiSalvo will serve as budget officer.

Still to be filled is the street commissioner position as well as liaisons to the police union, the DPW union and the community multicultural liaison. Still to be named also is a labor attorney for the village for the year ahead.

Also expected to be named at an upcoming meeting is a one-year appointment to the Village Board, to fill the seat vacated by DiSalvo when he was elected mayor.
The village’s disaster preparedness liaisons are Emma Rogers and Erik Smith.

There were several two-year appointments made, including that of Village Clerk Heidi Johnson, Treasurer Gabrielle Ferrier, Tax Collector Gabrielle Ferrier and Purchasing Clerk Ivan Chris Zacatelco.

The board also made some one-year appointments, including Alyse Terhune as the village’s attorney; Luciana Brown as the deputy village clerk and treasurer; Randy Meche, James Titolo, Michael Slapp, Bob Jones, Lisa Jones, Jake Stevens, Cathryn Beach, Harold Lamila, Enoch Brown Jr. and George Ramus as the Bog Meadow caretakers; and Police Chief Jason Torpey as Bingo inspector.

Also decided at the meeting:

- Official depositories for village funds are: JP Morgan Chase, N.A., Orange Bank & Trust, Key Bank, Wallkill Valley Federal Savings & Loan, Hudson Valley Investment Advisors and NY Class.

- The News of the Highlands is the official newspaper of the village, with the Times Herald Record to be used as needed.

- J. Robert Folchetti Association was named as the village engineer.

- The official business hours of the Village Office are 8:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. daily except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
