Town of Newburgh police arrested a man early Wednesday, August 7 after he allegedly threatened to kill his wife during a domestic dispute in the Meadow Hill area.

Officers responded to the residence around 2:15 a.m. after receiving a report through Orange County 911. While en route, authorities were informed that firearms were present and accessible in the home.

Upon arrival, police separated the suspect, identified as Christopher Mitchell, 38, from the female victim and conducted interviews. The investigation revealed that Mitchell had threatened his wife.

A search warrant was obtained, leading to the seizure of an illegally possessed .45 caliber Smith & Wesson semiautomatic handgun. Mitchell was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, a Class E felony, and second-degree harassment, a violation.

He was arraigned in City of Newburgh Court before Judge Forbes and was released on an appearance ticket. An order of protection was issued for the victim.
