The annual Halloween Costume Parade for the Village of Montgomery community took place Saturday, October 26 with families and neighbors dressed up, ready to scare and have fun. Families showed up to the event on Saturday afternoon with smiles on their faces, makeup prepped and additional accessories to add to the costume.
The fun kicked off at 4 p.m at the Orange County Firefighters Museum on Clinton Street where several treats and refreshments were provided for the families. The event was open to all elementary school children to dress up and show off their spooky side.
Costumes included the classic zombies and witches with some dressing up as famous characters such as Mario, Sonic, Jack Skellington and Batman. Parents also got involved dressing alongside their children and marching with them down to the Montgomery Senior Center where the trunk or treat took place.
“It’s a beautiful small town to do this in. Doing it for quite a few years now and looking forward to do it again in the future. Just like to thank everyone that gets involved in doing things like this, from the local government, the police department and everything,” said parent Keith Gessel. “It’s okay to have a good scare once in a while. A couple of treats aren’t gonna be all that bad.”
Montgomery Deputy Mayor Darlene Andolsek made a guest appearance in the parade, marching alongside her grandchildren and looking forward to the fun ahead at trunk or treat and wished everyone a safe and fun Halloween holiday.
“I just want everybody to go out and have fun, but stay safe. That’s the most important thing,” said Andolsek.
The march kicked off and made its way to the senior center where trunks with all different colors and themes greeted kids and candy of all kinds was given out. If any were interested, early voting was also being held at the senior center while the trunk or treat went on during the afternoon.
