Newburgh Free Academy tallied 18 points to claim sixth place in the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at Gillis Field House.
Monroe-Woodbury dominated the meet with 154 points, earning the overall title.
Men’s Results
Joseph Gaito delivered a standout performance in the 1,000 meters, placing fourth with a time of 2:50.7, while teammate Kiernan Judson finished sixth in the event at 2:56.29.
The 4x400 relay team of Enix Vega, David Rasario, Moose Shahham, and John Mena took fourth place in 3:55.22. The 4x800 relay team, featuring Gaito, Judson, Cooper Schmidt, and Jeremy Torres, added a fifth-place finish with a time of 9:35.20.
In the field events, Roman D’Alfonso excelled in the weight throw, securing fourth place with a toss of 52 feet, 2 inches. D’Alfonso also placed seventh in the shot put with a mark of 39-10.75.
Other top-10 finishes for the boys included Cameron Ford’s eighth-place result in the triple jump (35-03.00) and Jeremy Niare’s ninth-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles (10.66).
Women’s Results
The girls’ team earned its highest placement in the 4x200 relay, where Jasmine Cheatham, Amaya Caban, Crystal Beauford, and Gabrielle Robles finished fourth in 1:58.98. The same quartet also claimed fourth in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:34.50.
Individually, Robles shined in the 300 meters, capturing fourth place with a time of 44.38, while Caban finished fifth in the 600 meters in 1:53.23. In the high jump, both Brianna Prescott and Jimeris Morales cleared 4-06.00 to tie for fifth place.
Victoria Frazier showcased her versatility with a seventh-place finish in the long jump (13-04.50) and a sixth-place result in the triple jump (30-01.00).
Newburgh Free Academy will look to build on its promising performances as the indoor track season progresses.
