After enduring a tough stretch, the Newburgh Free Academy boys basketball team salvaged their week with a 55-39 victory over Warwick on Friday, snapping a four-game losing streak and improving to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in league play.
The week began with a rough outing on Monday, as the Goldbacks suffered a 28-point loss. On Wednesday, they bounced back with a spirited effort but fell just short in a 48-46 loss to Monroe-Woodbury.
Despite their best efforts, Newburgh couldn’t overcome a strong performance by the Crusaders’ Jamie Reich, who scored 15 points and recorded three steals, and Fabrice Ndja, who posted a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Newburgh rebounded in commanding fashion on Friday against Warwick.
The Goldbacks controlled the game from start to finish, extending their unbeaten streak against Warwick to 11 games, a stretch dating back to February 2015. The loss also snapped Warwick’s six-game winning streak.
The Goldbacks will look to carry the momentum from their victory into next week as they continue their push to climb the league standings.
