Grow Newburgh officially opens

Grow Newburgh, a local plant shop in the City of Newburgh, celebrated its official grand opening on Friday, November 11. Grow founders and owners Jaclyn and Ernest Ramos were joined by their children, family, friends and fellow Liberty St. business owners to officially celebrate the occasion with a ribbon cutting along with food and beverages provided.

The city based plant shop first opened its doors along the Liberty St corridor in early August 2022, operating out of the former Rob’s Roast Coffees storefront. The Ramoses, who are both originally from the Hudson Valley, previously went to school, lived and worked in New York City, settling in Brooklyn for a time. During the past several years, the couple returned to the area and settled in the Town of Cornwall with their children.

The couple had previously shared that with the last few years of the COVID outbreak, they shifted their focus to their family life and children. As their situation changed, the Ramoses made the ultimate decision to make Grow a full-time endeavor. Over the past several months, the couple welcomed customers to browse their plants and products and have also partnered with local businesses and artists to distribute their own products in their space.

“It’s just been an amazing last few months since we’ve moved into this location. All of our neighbors in the community, everyone has just been so welcoming, and just really cheerleading us on and really supporting us,” said Jaclyn. “Everybody’s so supportive, and helping us set up in terms of just the kindness that we’ve experienced over the last few months,” said Ernest.

City businesses have also added plants from Grow to their spaces for their patrons to enjoy. Now within the past month or so, the storefront has expanded into the adjacent space that was once home to the store Oliver and Chatfield. The expansion of Grow has allowed for more space for plants and other products to be put on display and has created a more natural flow to the overall space. The couple will be looking to offer workshops and classes for the community in the coming weeks.

The couple welcomed guests and friends starting around four in the afternoon and continued on into the late evening. Mayor Torrance Harvey, who led the ribbon cutting ceremony, was joined by Councilman Anthony Grice, Councilwoman Ramona Monteverde and Orange County Legislator Kevindaryán Luján at the grand opening. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, a portion of the ribbon was taken and was signed by the guests in attendance so as to be given to the Ramoses.

Joining the couple for their grand opening celebration was Tahra Wright, current owner of the 42 Liberty St. property. “I am beyond excited for Jaclyn and Ernest. I’m so proud of them for sticking with this belief. They had this idea probably over a decade ago,” said Wright. “What I love about this plant store in particular is that it can appeal to everybody.”

Triccia Ramos, Ernest’s sister, also in attendance for the opening, was full of joy to see the couple celebrate their grand opening and wished them well as they continue on their journey as business owners. “It’s really wonderful to witness my brother and my sister-in-law, opening a business, pretty much following a dream, you know. My heart is so full, I am just feeling so blessed and grateful to be able to be a part of it [the grand opening], ” said Triccia. “My wish for them is that this business adds, makes their life even fuller.”
