Highland Falls to observe National Night Out

Bicycle raffles, information booths, free food, games, K9 Demonstrations, a helicopter display, food vendors, a sensory area, live music by the West Point Benny Havens Band, activities featuring West Point Athletics, and much more will all be part of the joint West Point-Highland Falls-Fort Montgomery National Night Out event, set for 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6. It will all take place on West Point Highway, just in front of the Visitor’s Center.

The Highland Falls Police Department, West Point Military Police and Town of Highlands Police are organizing. Main St. will remain open to traffic, and there is parking on Main St., on Buffalo Soldiers Field and in the municipal lot across from Sacred Heart Church.

In addition to police, local fire departments will participate, as will other governmental agencies like the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, New York State Police, Orange County Stop DWI and others. Also participating will be local community groups and organizations, local schools and community businesses.

There is still room for more to join in the fun, HFPD Chief Jay Torpey said this week -- to do so, call the HFPD at 845-446-4911.

People of all ages are invited to attend, Torpey added. “It’s not just an event for kids.”

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our community safer. It’s held the first Tuesday of August every year, across the country.
