Holiday Hop is Saturday in the Town of Highlands

The Town of Highlands Chamber of Commerce is proud to present its version of Small Business Saturday, called the Holiday Hop; a community-driven event that has grown into one of our town’s biggest collaborations, Chamber President DeeDee Moreno said this week.

It will take place this Saturday, Dec. 7.

“Originally started by Highlands Arts Alliance, Crafty Dee’s Canvas, and Town of Highlands United Youth, this event brings together all local businesses and organizations, encouraging consumers (no purchase necessary) to ‘hop’ from one location to another to fill their hop cards,” Moreno said. “This year we will be adding even more challenges to the hop cards; by playing, you can win a chance at the grand prize, traditionally donated by the Town of Highlands United Youth. The last few years it has been a big a screen TV. There are also other wonderful raffles donated by our local businesses. Our goal is to make this event a fun experience for the whole community, and we’re grateful for the continued support of our local businesses and organizations.”

This year’s ‘Hop Headquarters’ is at 285 Main St. -- the soon to be Art Center owned by Moreno. You can get your Hop Cards there from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. But don’t wait too late ... raffle drawings start at 3:30 p.m., as the day begins to wrap up. You can also pick up Hop cards at the various participating businesses.

Organizers are also excited to offer bonus chances to enter the grand prize. For instance, if you “catch” the Grinch around the community and take a photo or video with him and post online, tagging on Facebook or Instagram, Town of Highlands Chamber of Commerce’s page you’ll be entered in a drawing.

The best bonus of the day, though, Moreno says, is the fact that you’ll be supporting local businesses and organizations by being out and about on December 7.

“Foot traffic helps everyone,” she said.

Here are some of the events planned, at press time. Watch for more participating businesses and organizations on social media in the days leading up to the Holiday Hop.

Crafty Dee’s will have local artisans selling their wares.
Holy Innocents Church will host a Penny Social on that day and is a ‘Hop Spot’. The church will be open from 10 a.m. until the drawing begins at 4 p.m. Winners don’t need to be present to win. Prizes include trendy clothing, children’s toys, stylish accessories and festive home decorations. For more information call Nicky at 845-376-3850 or the church office at 845-446-2197.

Santa will be visiting the Highland Falls Library from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. to visit with local children; and the Friends of the Library will be hosting a bake sale in the library foyer. Volunteer elves will also be hosting a craft and gingerbread house workshop in the front room of the library from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

The Highland Falls Fire Department Auxiliary will host its 11th annual vendor fair from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at the fire house.
