Holidays in the Hamlet coming this weekend

The first Holidays in the Hamlet event will take place in the Hamlet of Wallkill on Saturday, December 3 from 4 - 8 p.m. near the Wallkill Public Library lawn and Shawangunk Town Hall. Santa arrives about 5:30 p.m. to light the tree. Once the tree has been lit, Santa will meet with children until 7 p.m. Children are encouraged to bring a letter for Santa telling him exactly what gifts they are hoping for. They can take a picture with Santa too. Be sure that the child’s name and address are clear and complete on their letter so Santa can write back.

Holiday music from local choral groups and a DJ will put you in the holiday spirit as you stroll the marketplace with local artisan vendors. Sip on hot chocolate or cider, and nosh on some food as you shop. Don’t forget to have cash on hand for shopping. Be sure to stop by the Vision of Wallkill booth to purchase a limited-edition holiday ornament. Visit VOW’s Facebook page for a sneak peek of the ornament. So be merry and kick off the holiday season with your family and join your neighbors in the center of the hamlet.

The holiday season continues after the Holidays in the Hamlet event as residents continue to decorate their homes, businesses, front yards and sidewalks to “sparkle and shine”. There is still time to be a part of the Sparkle & Shine Contest, but all of your lights and inflatables must be installed by December 7. Be sure to have lights on and inflatables up for judging on December 8 - 9. The residential categories are Traditional, Creative and Motion. We will also select the businesses with the best decorations and holiday spirit. Do your part to make the town bright and beautiful, and post your photos on Vision of Wallkill’s Facebook page. (You may include your address if you choose.) Winners will be announced by December 14.

Volunteers are needed for the Holidays in the Hamlet event. If you can volunteer, or for questions about Holidays in the Hamlet or Sparkle & Shine, contact Donna at 845-527-6230.
