It didn’t matter if you knew how to ice skate or not, there was plenty to do around Garrison’s Pond in Fort Montgomery last Friday evening, as the FMFD and THPD hosted their annual ice-skating party.
Young children used folding chairs from the fire house to ‘learn to skate’ with (or for fun rides from willing skaters), there were several hockey games going on, some budding figure skaters showing off their moves. Off the ice, there were two bonfires at which to warm up, snacks, hot chocolate, and good company on the shores.
On and off-duty police officers, firefighters and Town of Highlands Ambulance Corps members were on high alert keeping all the participants safe … and having a good time themselves. The party was announced just earlier in the week as the low temperatures made for thick ice and perfect skating conditions.
