Joint public hearing on Maybrook solar farm set for April 24

The proposed solar farm on the west side of Maybrook continues to slog its way through a long and tedious approval process.

At a recent meeting, the Maybrook village board voted unanimously to issue a “negative declaration” of environmental impact for the Carson Power solar farm project proposed for a site near Cardinal Health and Taylor Recycling. Although Village Attorney Kelly Naughton noted there were several environmental impact areas of minimal to moderate concern, Carson Power addressed those concerns and noted in writing how it will mitigate the problem areas.

The lengthy approval process includes a joint public hearing on the annexation of about 24.5 acres of the site from the Town of Montgomery to Maybrook. That joint town-village public hearing will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, April 24, at the Maybrook Senior Center. That meeting will also include a joint public hearing of the Maybrook Village Board and Planning Board to decide the fate of a special use permit that the proposed project requires.

Carson Power’s solar farm proposal calls for two solar fields that would generate a total of ten megawatts of electricity that would link into the Central Hudson Gas & Electric substation on Maybrook Road. In addition, Carson Power would deed about 52 acres to the village.
