At a special meeting of the City Council on August 8, Katrina Cotten was appointed to the position of City Clerk. The City Council also appointed Lisette Acosta-Ramirez to serve as Deputy City Clerk.

Cotten is appointed City Clerk after serving as Deputy City Clerk for thirty-one years. She began her career in the City’s Office of Corporation Counsel in 1993. Ms. Cotten was born and raised in the City of Newburgh and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1992. Ms. Cotton graduated from Mercy College with a BS in Behavioral Science in 2009.

The City Clerk serves as the Registrar of Vital Statistics and as the City’s Records Access Officer. The City Clerk is responsible to attend and maintain the official record of City Council meetings. The Clerk’s office is responsible to issue permits and licenses, administer oaths and take affidavits and handle Freedom of Information Law requests.

The City Council is incredibly pleased to appoint Katrina Cotten to the position of City Clerk. Katrina brings thirty-one years of distinguished service as Deputy City Clerk to the role, and a lifetime of experience in the City of Newburgh. We wish Katrina the best in her new role.”
