Every day last week volunteers stopped by the Sacred Heart School gym to either drop off or help sort donations that were set to head to hurricane-ravaged North Carolina and other states after Hurricane Helene. The drive was organized by the Town of Highlands United Youth and Chamber of Commerce, and the items, early Sunday morning, were picked up by New Windsor’s Paul Mongelli, Jr. to be driven South. In addition to donated items from the community, leftover items (cleaning supplies and some food) that were donated to Highland Falls and Fort Montgomery after the July 9, 2023 flood were included in the donation. Here O’Neill High School Counselor Lisa Mackey and her son AJ helped on Saturday morning.
