Lloyd honors three law-enforcement officers

At the start of last week’s Lloyd Town Board meeting, Police Chief James Janso honored three law enforcement officers - Sgt. Anthony Kalimeras, Officer Dan Labodin and Trooper Brittany Schurko – for saving the life of a local resident.

On March 29, 2022 the three officers responded to a residence on Bordi Lane after Ulster County 911 received a call for help. Chief Janso said, “After some effort the residence was located where the call originated. The front door was locked and the officers began knocking on the door. Ulster County 911 advised they were able to hear the officers knocking due to the open phone line condition, but the caller was not responding. Officers were able to see through a side window and noticed a trail of blood droplets on the floor of the residence. Forced entry was made by the officers at the front door of the residence.”

The caller was a 64 year old Highland woman who was sitting in a chair with what appeared to be a self-inflicted laceration to her left wrist. She was unconscious with shallow breathing and had a pale complexion.

Sgt. Kalimeras assisted with first aid and coordinated with the EMS response while Officer Labodin and Trooper Schurko applied a police tactical tourniquet and were able to stop the bleeding. Mobile Life Support Services transported the woman to the hospital where she was treated and has ultimately recovered from her injury.

Janso said their quick coordinated life-saving effort, “showed a high level of professionalism, dedication and poise under an extremely stressful and life-threatening situation. I am honored and proud tonight to present a Town of Lloyd Police Life Saving Award to these officers.”
