Last week Lloyd Police Chief James Janso released a summary of his department’s activities for 2022.
During the year the department received 11,900 calls for service; there were 467 accidents, 70 of which resulted in personal injury and 397 involved property damage; a total of 722 parking and Uniform Traffic Tickets were issued and there were 249 arrests.

The department had a total of 14 overdoses, 4 of which were fatal, and the remaining 10 all received Narcan and were revived.

The department held a series of training sessions: Harassment in the workplace; use of CPR/AED and a new Force on Force Training. Janso said this new reality-based training comes from the Ulster County Sheriff’s department and shows officers how to react and informs them on what they should and shouldn’t do in a given situation.

A Taser Instructor Course trained and certified all officers in the use of Taser 7. Janso said this new model can fire two tasers, “If it doesn’t go through the clothing or it misses, you have a second chance to deploy another taser,” he said. “It has laser dots on it, so where the laser dots go, you can disseminate what part of the body. Everything is downloadable now so when it goes off you can tell how long the duration was, the time of it and it’s all computer generated now.”

Janso said his officers were made aware of Resources for enhancing Physical Security in schools. In addition, the National Association of School Resource Officers ran a training session for the department’s SRO officer.

All Officers were qualified on the New Glock Generation 4 firearm and all received a law refresher from the District Attorney’s Office.

Chief Janso summed up the current trends in the Town of Lloyd.

“Our town has a population of more than 12,000 and is growing. Fourteen million vehicles crossed the Mid-Hudson Bride in 2022 and the Walkway over the Hudson brings approximately 500,000 tourists and people to our town. Our small department of 22 members is tasked with the safety and security of all our residents, visitors or those that were passing through. My department did that exceptionally well while still dealing with Covid and a shortage of manpower,” he said. “I want to thank all the officers and dispatchers of my department for their dedication, professionalism and for the outstanding job they did in 2022.”

Janso said this has been a challenging time for his department.

“We’re still going through a transition and re-branding ourselves, re-training and re-educating and my department pulled through and they did what they had to do to keep the department up and running and to keep our community safe,” he said.
