LoBiondo seeks another term on town council

Current councilman and longtime Newburgh resident Anthony LoBiondo will seek re-election to the town board this coming election year. In addition, LoBiondo will be running on the Republican line and is also seeking to run on the Conservative line as well. LoBiondo, along with Town Supervisor Gil Piaquadio, who has also announced his re-election and Councilman Scott Manley are all up for re-election this year as well.

For LoBiondo, he is excited heading into this election season in pursuit of a full four year term and another opportunity to serve his community. “The two and a half years went by very quickly but at the same time, I think they were very positive and it was a fantastic experience. I really enjoy my work as a councilman, and I want to continue to serve the members of my community,” said LoBiondo.

LoBiondo is an attorney with more than 30 years of experience who served as a prosecutor in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office from 1991 to 1997, with additional work in the City of Newburgh. LoBiondo is also a member of the Orange County Bar Association, the New York State Association of Trial Lawyers, and the Orange County Chamber of Commerce. In the town, he and his wife Juliana of 25 years own and are partners of LoBiondo Law Offices and formed the LoBiondo Family Foundation which provides annual college scholarships to Newburgh Free Academy students who will plan to attend community college following graduation. The couple has also raised their two sons, Christian and Michael.

LoBiondo is also the Vice President and a founding member of America Rows and Swims Newburgh, a nonprofit organization which provides after-school rowing programs and summer camp opportunities for children in the Newburgh area. LoBiondo is also a past member of the Board of Directors of the Children’s Rights Society and the Newburgh Rowing Club.

In the first year of the COVID pandemic which is when LoBiondo first joined the board, he reflected on his process of getting elected that year. “I was first elected in November of 2020 after having been appointed in July of that year, and then because it was not a typical time for the council to have their elections, I had to run in a special election. Typically, the local elections are off years,” said LoBiondo. “So during the time that I ran it was a federal election season. So I ran along with the President of the United States. So it was an interesting time to be running.”

During the years as councilman, LoBiondo served as the town liaison to the Town Justice Court, the Town Clerk’s office, the Buildings and Grounds Department, the Receiver of Taxes Office and the Chadwick Lake Trail Department. LoBiondo also served on the Orange County Transportation Committee and the Parade Committee for the town. With the town board, LoBiondo has worked in the creation of a town budget with zero property tax increases, helped welcome the new Resorts World Casino to the Newburgh Mall, helped in the creation of a town ambulance district and helped in the acquisition of the Desmond Estate that continues to offer its Adult Enrichment Classes. Other projects included a new Code Compliance building, pickleball courts for recreation, a tree preservation law passed in the town, a Hotel Motel Tax was obtained and the town board are working towards the creation of a recreation center for residents in the coming years.

If re-elected to the town board, LoBiondo shared that continuing to maintain town taxes, maintain public safety and the service to the overall Newburgh community are his top priorities when it comes to his role as a town council member.

“Public service is very important to me. It is an honor and a privilege to serve as Town of Newburgh Councilman,” said LoBiondo. “Upon re-election, I will continue to devote myself wholeheartedly to the position and will give careful consideration to all matters before the Board and to continue the tradition that has made us the Town of Newburgh.”
