Marlboro’s postseason run came to an abrupt end Wednesday night as the eighth-seeded Dukes fell to No. 4 Saugerties, 55-32, in the Section 9 Class A semifinals at Saugerties High School.
The loss was Marlboro’s largest margin of defeat since Jan. 29, 2024, and snapped a three-game winning streak that had propelled the Dukes into the semifinals. Marlboro finished the season with an 11-10 record.
Saugerties, which advanced to the championship game with the win, ultimately fell to New Paltz in the Class A final.
Marlboro’s playoff run included a stunning upset in the quarterfinals Monday, when the Dukes edged top-seeded Beacon, 53-50, at Beacon High School. The victory ended Beacon’s nine-game winning streak and secured Marlboro’s spot in the semifinals.
During their three-game streak leading into Wednesday’s loss, the Dukes had averaged 57.3 points per game, but their offense struggled against Saugerties’ defense.
