Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Hurd Scott

Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Hurd Scott of the Town of Newburgh passed away on Saturday, September 21 after a short illness.

Betty was born on July 14th, 1932 to Francis and Mary (Williams) Hurd at home in the Town of New Windsor. 

Betty was a 1950 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and began a career in banking at the National Bank of Newburgh on Water Street; later working for Columbus Trust on lower Broadway and finally Key Bank.

Betty married James W. Scott in July of 1954 and were happily married for 59 years until Jim's passing in 2013. Betty and Jim were avid campers, traveling throughout the eastern part of the United States. 

She is survived by her sister, Catherine (Hurd) Horton; her nephews William (Janine) Horton of New Windsor, and Stephen (Lisa) Horton of Thurmond; her great nephew Cole Horton of New Windsor, step daughter-in-law Trudi Scott; step grandsons Dwight W. Scott and Daniel W. (Kirsten) Scott; step-great granddaughters Jaidyn, Ashlee, Danielle and Addison; nieces Carol Sager and Valerie Metzger-Horton; as well as many cousins.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, her husband, step-son Dwight W. Scott, an infant brother, brothers-in-law Raymond Horton and John Taylor, and sister-in-law Dorothy Taylor.

There will be no visitation. A graveside service was held on September 26th, 2024 at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor where she was laid to rest with her husband Jim.
