Mary Jane’s survives a crash

The owner of Mary Jane’s Dairy Bar in Middle Hope is vowing to open on time for the season, despite an unexpected visitor on Saturday.

It was approximately 4:53 p.m. on Saturday when a car slammed into the side of the popular ice cream stand, ending up inside.

Police arrived on the scene to find a 2015 Infiniti Q70 had crashed into the building on the south side, going through the wall and coming to rest inside the building.

Operator of the vehicle, Shayane Reynolds, 29, of Poughkeepsie, apparently lost control of his vehicle as it was heading north on 9W, left the roadway, traveled through the parking lot and struck the building.

Reynolds was taken to Montifiore St Luke’s Cornwall Hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries.

While the accident is still being investigated, Reynolds was found to have a suspended license which was revoked for a prior Driving While Intoxicated Arrest.

After being treated and released from the hospital, Reynolds was arrested and charged with Felony DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation Motor Vehicle 1st, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation Motor Vehicle 2nd, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation Motor Vehicle 3rd, Unlicensed Operation and several Vehicle and Traffic summonses. He was processed and released on an appearance ticket to appear in Town Court.

Mary Jane’s owner Margaret Gallo said no one was inside the building, which is still weeks away from opening for the season.

“First and foremost we are thankful that no one was injured in Saturday’s incident,” Gallo wrote on Facebook. “The outpouring of community support has been overwhelming and very much appreciated. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your love and support. Rest assured that Mary Jane’s will continue to be your local favorite for years to come.”
